Police investigating a sexual assault in Sunderland city centre are appealing for a taxi driver to get in contact.

The incident happened near Park Lane in the city centre in the early hours of Saturday, June 25. An 18-year-old girl was sexually assaulted.

Before the incident was reported to police a taxi driver in a white hackney carriage style taxi pulled up to another taxi - a Silver City taxi - in Park Lane and passed on information about the suspected offender. It's believed this happened between 2.35am and 2.50am. The driver of the white hackney carriage left before police arrived and officers are keen for him to get in contact as he may be a key witness.

The taxi was a Peugeot Tippy four door white hackney carriage, the vehicle was plain white and did not have any advertising or livery on the outside.

If this was you or you know who this is please contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 180 250616 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
