Elderly woman robbed in Walkergate

Police are appealing for information after an attempted bag snatch in Newcastle.

Around 2:45pm on Tuesday, August 30, a 77-year-old woman was walking in the underpass near to Walkergate Metro Station in Benfield Road when she was approached by a man who grabbed her bag.

The woman put up a struggle and was knocked to the ground by the man, suffering a cut to her hand.

The man then fled the scene empty handed.

He is described as being white, around 22-25 years old, 6ft tall, of slim build and with short shaved hair that was longer on the top than the sides. He was wearing a blue tracksuit style hooded top and lighter coloured shorts that came just over the knee, blue socks and blue trainers.
