Man injured during aggravated burglary

Police are appealing for information after an aggravated burglary in Newcastle.

In the early hours of Wednesday, August 30, a man entered an address in Ulverstone Terrace in Walker and assaulted the occupants - a 19-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman.

The woman suffered a minor injury to her neck and the man suffered serious cuts to his head, hand and body and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Due to the nature of the injuries the man sustained police believe the offender may have been armed with a knife of some kind.

When officers arrived at the scene there were a number of residents in the street and officers are this morning carrying out house to house enquiries and speaking with local people.
