A father and son have been jailed for allowing properties they let be used for drug production.

Sukdave Shabilla, 47, of Australia Grove in South Shields and Manroup Shabilla, 28, of Beaconside, South Shields were sentenced to two years today at Newcastle Crown Court for allowing a property to be used for the production of cannabis.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Woods said: "These men ran a lettings agency and duped innocent members of the public into signing up to the agency for them to let their property. However unbeknown to

those who were using the company the agency was allowing the properties to be used for the production of cannabis.

"These people put trust in the agency to let their property and this sentence today should send a clear warning of the stand we will take against those who abuse their position.

"The misery of drugs is well known and we will do all we can to dismantle its production and supply - whether people are directly or indirectly involved we will take action."

To report drugs or drugs supply in your area ring Northumbria Police on 101.
