Two men have been jailed after a vicious attack in Newcastle.

On Thursday, February 25, a 42-year-old man was attacked in Springfield Road in Newcastle by two men armed with a machete and a hammer.

The victim suffered cuts to his face and a fractured cheekbone as a result of the attack.

Dale Aaron Fowler, 21, of Wychcroft Way, Newcastle and John Thomas Arrowsmith, 39, of Wychcroft Way, Newcastle were both charged with GBH and on August 15 they appeared at Newcastle Crown Court where they were both jailed for four years each.

Detective Inspector Neil Wynd, who investigated the incident, said: "Fowler and Arrowsmith are both dangerous individuals who will now spend the next few years behind bars. Anyone who thinks it's acceptable to use weapons like machetes and hammers to attack someone do not have a place in our communities. I would like to thank the local community in Blakelaw for their support and help throughout this investigation"
