Newcastle city centre Neighbourhood Policing Team is hosting a fun day on Saturday.
Local officers will be based at the Monument end of Northumberland Street, between 10am and 2pm, and will be joined by colleagues from motor patrols, mounted section, special constables, police cadets and the force's new police puppies.
The public will be able to speak to officers and see some of the police vehicles, police horses and equipment up close.
They will also be able to meet the force's newest four-legged recruits and their handlers from the dog section.
There will be information on the force's new 'Be The Difference' recruitment campaign and anyone thinking of becoming a police officer can ask questions and get information on how to apply.
Newcastle Inspector Nicola Wearing said: "The town will be buzzing on Saturday ahead of the Great North Run and we are really looking forward to seeing everyone in our fantastic city.
"We will be playing our part in events by holding our Great North Fun event in Northumberland Street. The event is all about meeting as many people as possible and showing them who we are, what we are doing to keep Newcastle safe and what we are all about as a force.
"We'll be bringing some of our fabulous police puppies down for people to meet and to show everyone how great they are coming along in their training. Their trainers will be there to answer any questions and let people have a little stroke.
"We will have Operation Dragoon officers there with some of our police vehicles so people can take a look at them, have a sit in them and find out about some of the work they are doing to keep the roads safe.
"There will also be plenty of information about our new recruitment campaign and I'd urge anyone who is planning to apply, or anyone who is thinking about it, to come down and make the most of the opportunity - talk to us, ask questions and get any help that you need.
"Anyone wanting to join our Special Constabulary or the Police Cadets can also speak to some of our amazing volunteers that will be on hand.
"Really we just want people to come along on Saturday and say hello. We're really looking forward to it and a fantastic weekend for the city."
