Attempt robbery in Byker

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempt robbery in Byker.

The incident happened between 7.30pm and 7.45pm on Thursday, September 8, in Allendale Road, Byker.

A delivery driver, aged, 38, was driving along the B1314 Allendale Road, travelling from Welbeck Road when he stopped at the traffic lights at the crossroads with Commercial Road and Dunstanburgh Road. While he was stationary at the junction he was approached by a man who threatened him with a knife.

The 38-year-old man was not injured in the incident and nothing was stolen.

The offender is described as male, 5ft 8 inches tall, dressing in dark clothing, wearing a hooded top with the hood up and a dark coloured snood or scarf wrapped around his face.

The delivery driver was in a plain white Ford Transit van.

Officers are appealing for witnesses and asking anyone with information to get in contact.
