Appeal after city centre assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Newcastle city centre.

Around 1:50am on Saturday, September 10, a 29-year-old man was assaulted outside the rear doors of Switch bar in Churchill Street.

Officers believe the victim had been drinking in the bar when he became involved in an altercation with a group of men and women.

One of the men from the group struck him to the head, causing him to fall, before they left the area in the direction of St James' Boulevard.

He was taken to hospital with a serious head injury and remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Descriptions of the group:

Male 1: White, with dark hair, shaved at the back and sides, wearing a white shirt, dark coloured suit jacket, dark coloured suit trousers.

Male 2: White, with fair hair, shaved at the back and sides, wearing a white shirt, dark coloured trousers, and holding a dark coloured suit jacket.

Female 1: White, blonde hair, large build, wearing a blue sleeveless top, dark coloured tight trousers / leggings. 

Female 2: White, blonde hair, slim build, wearing a dark coloured long sleeve top, light coloured skirt.

Female 3: White, dark hair in a ponytail, wearing a dark coloured sleeveless top, dark trousers.

Anyone who was in Switch that night and thinks they know who the people are, or anyone with any information that could help detectives with their enquiries is asked to ring 101 quoting reference number 409 10/09/16
