Car set alight in Hexham

Police are appealing for witnesses after a car was deliberately set on fire in Hexham.

It happened at 1.42am, in the early hours of Monday, September 19, when a car was parked on a driveway in Eilanville in Northumberland.

An offender approached the vehicle and deliberately set it on fire causing substantial damage before making off unseen. This is an isolated incident and police are treating it as arson.

Officers are also carrying out extra patrols in the area to reassure local people.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police.

A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail pending further enquiries.
