A new neighbourhood sergeant has just rejoined the policing team at West Tynedale.

Sergeant Michael Quinn is now based at Hexham and is responsible for policing Hexham, Slaley, Blanchland and surrounding villages.

He has a wealth of experience in the area as he has spent most of his 19 years service in Northumberland. He was promoted to sergeant in 2003 when he first came to Tynedale and has worked in Prudhoe and Hexham as both 24/7 response and as a neighbourhood sergeant, he joins the team from his last posting in Wallsend.

Sgt Quinn said: "I'm delighted to be working back with the neighbourhood team in Hexham and getting re acquainted with local residents.

"Working in a neighbourhood team gives you a real sense of community and makes you feel part of that community. That's really important as local people are very much our extra eyes and ears here in the county.

"I'm really looking forward to getting out and meeting local people and members of our business community over the coming weeks. I'm proud to be here working with partners in the area to tackle local issues and help keep people safe from crime, it's essential we protect those in need and target the individuals who cause harm, that's what the job's all about."

"If you see me in the area do stop and say hello."

Sgt Quinn works alongside his colleague Sgt Sue Hewitson, who covers the rural areas including Bellingham and Haltwhistle.

If anyone has any concerns about crime or disorder where they live they should contact their local neighbourhood policing team on 101.
