Appeal after cars set on fire

Police are appealing for information after three cars were set on fire in South Tyneside and Gateshead.

Between 3am and 4:45am on Wednesday, September 21, the fire service were called to three reports of cars having been set on fire.

The first incident was in Follingsby Terrace in Hebburn, where a Vauxhall Vectra was on fire.

The second was in Dexter Way, Felling, where a Vauxhall Corsa had been set alight. The third was in Split Crow Road in Gateshead where an X-Type Jaguar had also been set on fire.

All of the fires were extinguished and no one was injured.

Enquiries are ongoing into the fires and police believe they may have been started maliciously. Witnesses reported seeing a white Transit van in the area of Split Crow Road shortly before the fire.
