Police are appealing for information after a window was damaged in the Denton Burn area of Newcastle.

At 5am on Saturday, September 24, officers received a report that a window of a property in Fergusons Lane had been smashed.

Police attended and after carrying out enquiries believe the window may have been shot at by a firearm of some kind.

An investigation is underway and police have been carrying out enquiries in the area and speaking to local residents.

Newcastle Chief Inspector Alison Best said: "From CCTV enquiries in the area we believe that two men in a car have driven into Fergusons Lane in the early hours of September 24 and one of them has got out of the car and fired at the window of one of the houses in the street before making off. We are doing all we can to identify these men and find the weapon used in the offence.

"We have had extra patrols in the area since the incident happened to speak to people and provide reassurance. We will continue to have a presence in the area in the coming weeks and if anyone has any information as to who is responsible for this damage then I would ask them to speak to our officers or ring us on 101."

Anyone who has any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 247 24/09/16.
