Woman assaulted in Newcastle

Police are appealing for help after an assault in Newcastle city centre.

Around 2am on Friday, October 14, a 34-year-old woman was assaulted after leaving a bar in the city centre.

She had left the bar with a man, walked a short distance before they were joined by three other men who assaulted her by punching her in the face.

The four men then fled the scene. They are described as all being white and spoke with irish accents.

The victim managed to flag down a passing taxi driver who stopped and took her to Forth Banks police station where she was able to get help.

The victim is not from the Newcastle area and was unable to pinpoint the bar or the location of the assault.

Officers are appealing for the taxi driver who picked the victim up from the city centre and took her to Forth Banks police station to come forward as he may have information that could help with the investigation.

Anyone who might have witnessed the assault is also asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 95 14/10/16.
