Police have launched an appeal for witnesses after a serious collision involving a car and a motorcycle in the west end of Newcastle.

At around 4.45pm on Monday, October 25, police received a report that a Volvo S40 and a black Suzuki motorcycle had collided on the Westgate Road at the junction with Chelsea Grove.

Emergency services attended and the 23-year-old motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a leg injury. He has since been discharged.

The 47-year-old driver of the Volvo was not injured in the incident. One lane of the road was temporarily closed as police dealt with the incident.

Enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision are ongoing and now police are asking anyone who witnessed it to get in touch.

It occurred at a time when a number of vehicles and pedestrians were in the area so there would have been a number of witnesses to the collision.

Anyone who can help the investigation is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 799 25/10/16 or independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
