Police in Newcastle are getting ready to kick off a football tournament raising funds for two charities.

Teams made up of officers and representatives from cancer charity Marie Curie will pit their wits against each other in an event taking place on November 10th, at Walker Activity Dome.

The tournament aims to net funds for both Marie Curie and Newcastle-based charity the Bubble Foundation which helps babies and children born without an immune system by funding the medical equipment, toys, educations aids and research to ensure their welfare.

This isn't the first time Northumbria Police Sergeant Michelle Jahangiri has organised the eleven-a-side tournament.

During her time as a Neighbourhood Sergeant for Newcastle Central, Sgt Jahangiri worked in partnership with the NHS at the RVI hospital and was so impressed with the Bubble Foundation's work she was inspired to set up the events to raise much needed funds.

Sgt Jahangiri said: "Past events have proved such a success that I know this year's will be no exception.

"Through football, we can raise vital funds for two charities that do a tremendous amount of good work for people in our area.

"The event itself is also a time for communities to come together and have fun, all for good causes.

"I'd like to thank everyone whose involved for their continued support and passion so that the tournaments can continue each year allowing us to help those most in need."
