Attempt robbery in Hetton -le -Hole

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man attempted to rob a 28-year-old woman in Hetton -le -Hole.

The incident happened around 7pm last night (Wednesday, November 10) in Fairy Street. The offender approached the woman grabbed her hair and threatened her with a knife. He attempted to grab her handbag as she struggled with him. The offender made off empty handed. The 28-year-old suffered a small cut on her hand as a result of the incident and was left shaken.

It's thought the offender was wearing dark clothing.

Extra patrols are being carried out in the area as part of enquiries and to offer reassurance.

Hetton Neighourhood Inspector Vicky Quinn said: "Police will be in the area today to speak to the local community and offer reassurance as well as carry out enquiries to establish the identity of the offender so he can be arrested.

"Any witnesses should either speak to an officer on patrol or run us on 101 as they may have information that is crucial in helping us arrest the offender."
