Police are appealing for witnesses after reports of a disturbance in Newcastle.

At around 10.50pm last night (Saturday) police received reports of an argument between a man and a woman on Westgate Road in the west end of the city.

It was also reported that the man believed to be involved in the dispute was driving a black Mercedes vehicle erratically on Brighton Grove and in the nearby area.

Officers attended the scene but the vehicle, and the couple involved, had left the area.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and a 45-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward and are particularly keen for the woman involved in the dispute to come forward.

Police would like her to contact them so they can ensure she is safe and well. They also want to speak to her to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

The woman, or anyone who was in the area at the time in question and saw the vehicle or couple involved, should call 101 quoting log 1190 19/11/20.

Anyone with information can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
