Officers from Cramlington are holding a free bike marking event in the town.

Police are inviting cyclists to come and get their bikes security logged at CJ Performance Cycles on High Pit Road on Saturday, December 3, from 2pm-4.30pm.

Officers will be on hand to security log bikes and encourage people to register them with immobilise.com for free. This means once registered, a bike - or other valuable item - can be returned to its rightful owner if lost or stolen then recovered by police.

Cyclists will also be offering visitors crime prevention advice.

Police Community Support Officer Barry Elliott said: "I'd encourage people to take advantage of the event, as we know that bike marking not only acts as a deterrent to thieves, it can also see lost or stolen cycles returned to their rightful owner if we do recover them.

"I'd also remind people not to leave their bike unattended, even for just a few minutes and to ask people to keep their bike locked.

"These sessions are a great opportunity for local people to benefit from free bike marking, which is a simple but effective crime prevention measure.

"People are welcome to bring along their older bikes or any new ones they've bought as part of their Christmas shopping, we can cater for bikes of all ages.

"Events such as this are helping people to protect their property and playing a big part in helping to prevent crime."
