Thieves and burglars in Fenham are on the look out for bikes.

This is the warning that officers are issuing to residents in the area following a number of burglaries to sheds in the Ovington Grove area in the last couple of weeks.

Since November 8th police have received four reports that sheds in the area have been broken into.

Tools, electrical equipment and bikes were stolen during the break-ins and officers are urging residents to protect their sheds and avoid being targeted by burglars.

Neighbourhood Inspector Julie Rana said: "Bikes seem to be top of the list for thieves on the run up to Christmas. They are looking for sheds that have been left unlocked or with poor security and then breaking in and then helping themselves to bikes and other expensive items. If you store bikes, or anything of value, in your shed then please think about protecting them. Make sure it's locked and use good quality locks and security equipment. Consider taking anything of high value out of the shed and storing it in the garage or indoors.

"Help us catch these burglars by reporting anyone who you see hanging around homes, gardens, garages, sheds or vehicles acting suspiciously. If you see something that's not right then ring us and tell us and we will do the rest."

During one of the burglaries that happened between Sunday night (Nov 13) and Monday morning (Nov 14) a black and white Specialized XL Tarmac SL bike and a black and white BT Triban bike were stolen.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate these bikes and anyone with any information into the whereabouts of them, or about any of the burglaries, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 125 14/11/16.
