Police are appealing for information after thousands of pounds worth of tyres were stolen in Gateshead.

Overnight between midnight Thursday, October 20, and 8am on Friday, October 21, around 30 Continental tyres were stolen from the back of a truck parked at Birtley services northbound.

Officers believe the thieves made off with the tyres by rolling them across the motorway and into the nearby trees before picking them up in a high-sided flat bed truck.

The tyres are Continental 225/45 R18YXL models.

Anyone with any information into the theft is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 204 21/10/16.
