Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman was bitten by a dog in Morpeth.

It happened at approximately 3pm on Thursday, November 24, when the 61-year-old woman was out walking her two Shih Tzu dogs in Postern Woods in the Northumberland town.

She saw another woman walking a brown Spaniel who she heard being called Harry. This dog attacked the two smaller dogs twice before the owner picked them up. The Spaniel then attempted to get the dogs she was holding and bit her arm causing a large bruise and puncture wound.

The owner of Harry was spoken to and then walked off without giving her details. The injured woman was shaken by the incident.

The woman owner of the offending dog Harry is described as white, in her 50s, 5 feet 5" tall, slim build with mousey blond bobbed hair and wearing a brown rain mac.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police. Also anyone who recognises the owner of Harry, the brown Spaniel from the description, is also asked to make contact.

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 596 of 24/11/16 or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
