Charity shop purse theft

Police are appealing for witnesses following a purse theft from a charity shop in Ashington.

It happened at 1pm on Monday, November 28, inside the Scope charity shop on Station Road in the Northumberland town. A 75-year-old woman was browsing in the shop when her purse was stolen from her handbag, the offender made off unseen.

Acting Inspector Michelle Caisley said: "Officers are investigating this crime and are asking for help from the public to identify the person responsible.

"We'd also ask people to be vigilant and keep a close watch on their purse or wallet when out shopping. Please make sure any bags are kept zipped or securely fastened to help prevent any opportunist crime."

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious, is asked to contact police.
