Collision in Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision in Gateshead between a car and a pedestrian at approximately 11pm on Wednesday, December 14.

It happened on Rectory Road near to the junction with Westminster Street. A Skoda car was travelling from the direction of Bensham Road prior to the collision.

A 19-year-old male pedestrian sustained a serious leg injury and was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment. His injuries are not life threatening.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with information is asked to contact motor patrols on 101 quoting reference 1229 14/12/16

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and released on police bail.
