Man assaulted in South Tyneside nightclub

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 26-year-old man was assaulted in a South Tyneside night club.

It happened at 02.01am, the early hours of Sunday, December 18, when the victim was on the packed dance floor of Viva on Mile End Road in South Shields.

He was approached from behind by a man who slashed him across the neck and then made off. The victim was taken to hospital where he is detained with non life threatening injuries, his condition is described as stable. It is believed the injured man and his assailant are known to each other.

The offender is described as a man in his mid 20s, six feet tall and wearing dark clothing.

Police are carrying out enquiries in the area and additional officers are on patrol to reassure the local community.
