Police in Sunderland will be handing out an early Christmas present to residents on Christmas Eve - to help protect them from burglars.
Neighbourhood officers from Sunderland Central Neighbourhood Policing Team will be handing out burglary packs across Millfield and Ashbrooke kitted out with goods aimed at keeping burglars at bay over the festive season.
The packs include property marking kits, alarmed door wedges, personal alarms and motion sensor door alarms. Officers will also be offering crime prevention advice.
The initiative is part of Northumbria Police's crackdown on burglary in the run up to the festive season and beyond.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Neil Hudspeth said: "We will be visiting residents across Millfield and Ashbrooke to offer them an early Christmas present with a few goodies to help keep their home safe from burglars.
"We want to do all we can to help protect our local communities and help make sure none of our residents' Christmas is ruined by unwanted visitors looking to steal their valuables. The items in the pack are simple yet effective crime prevention measures that can all help."
Last week police wrote to burglars warning them if they are caught committing a burglary over the next few days they could end up spending the festive season behind bars away from their family and friends.
Chief Inspector Jerry Pearson said: "Burglary will very much remain a priority for us over the festive season and I would encourage everyone to follow a few simple crime prevention tips to help protect their property while our efforts to target burglars will continue."
