A local charity in South Tyneside has offered its support to Northumbria Police's Winter Warmers campaign.

Over the weekend foodbank 'Hebburn Helps' collected donations of clothes and toys on behalf of the force after the Winter Warmers campaign was launched last week.

Yesterday, neighbourhood officers PC Paul Burrows and PC Karl Peterson from Hebburn Neighbourhood Policing Team, collected the donations and delivered them to Tyne Gateway who were holding an event to support families in crisis in at Harton and Westoe Miners Welfare Club.

Sergeant Matt Hough said: "We were delighted to be able to support Tyne Gateway's event to help families in crisis this Christmas and welcomed the support from Hebburn Helps in collecting donations on our behalf."

The Winter Warmers campaign was launched by PC Alan Bowden to support families less well off during the festive season.
