Appeal after assaults

Police are appealing for information after two assaults in Newcastle.

Around 8pm on Sunday, January 22, two men were attacked by a group of youths in two separate incidents in Ellesmere Road and Wellfield Road.

The first attack happened in Wellfield Rd at its junction with Canning Street shortly before 8pm and saw a 25-year-old man approached from behind by the group and attacked.

He was knocked unconscious and suffered serious head injuries. He is currently in the RVI in a non-life threatening condition.

The second incident happened shortly after in Ellesmere Road and police believe the same group then assaulted a 27-year-old man leaving him with a broken jaw.

The group is described as being in their late teens and could have been two or three males and one female. They may have also been armed with a weapon of some kind.

Enquiries are ongoing into the attacks and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 979 22/01/17.
