Man charged with Asian gold thefts

A man has been charged in connection with a number of high value Asian gold thefts in Newcastle.

Between January and July, 2016, 10 homes were burgled in the Fenham, Kingston Park and Heaton areas of the city.

Over £250,000 in Asian gold and jewellery were stolen during the break-ins.

On Wednesday, January 25, Martin Joseph Ward, who is 32 and from Corringham in Essex was charged with conspiracy to burgle.

He was remanded in custody and will appear at South East Northumberland Magistrates' court on January 26.

A second man arrested in connection with the incidents is on police bail and enquiries are ongoing.
