Police are appealing for witnesses following a two vehicle collision in Ashington.

It happened at approximately 5pm on Monday, January 30, on Milburn Road.

A police car had been following behind a Ford Mondeo car on Woodhorn Road when the Mondeo pulled away out of sight.

A short time later the Ford Mondeo collided with a Nissan Quashqai car, on Milburn Road. The Mondeo then hit a wall in Milburn Road before coming to rest after colliding with a tree in the garden. The two occupants of the Mondeo ran off.

The woman driver of the Nissan suffered minor injuries, the two children with her in the car were uninjured.

Following enquiries officers have arrested a 31-year-old man on suspicion of failing to stop after an accident, he has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard the collision, is asked to contact police.
