Police arrest man after car stolen in Newcastle burglary.

A 23-year-old Newcastle man is in police custody following a police operation last night.

At 10:17pm on Thursday, February 9, officers received a report that a Ford Focus had been stolen during a burglary of a house in Gosforth.

Response officers attended and following enquiries they located the vehicle being driven in the Lemington area.

Specialist motor patrols officers assisted and after a short pursuit a stinger was deployed in Scotswood  area and it punctured three tyres of the Focus bringing it to a safe stop.

The man then fled the vehicle and tried to get away from officers but was stopped by one of our police dogs. He was then arrested on suspicion of burglary.

He remains in custody and enquiries into the incidents are ongoing.

No officers,or dogs, were injured during the operation.
