Residents in Blakelaw urged to lock their doors following recent spate of burglaries.

So far in February there has been four burglaries in the Blakelaw area. They have happened in the Colwyne Place, Lynton Place, Gishford Way and Stamfordham Road.

All four of the offences have happened between 3:30pm and 10:10pm and to homes with doors and windows left unlocked.

Officers are stepping up patrols in the area in the afternoons and evenings looking to identify and arrest those responsible and deter further offences.

Police are also asking residents to make sure their doors and windows are locked and their homes secure every time they leave the house and even while in it.

Inspector Julie Rana said: "This is a worrying trend for the area and would suggest there is a criminal, or a group of criminals, specifically looking to hit homes that have been left with unlocked doors and windows. Help avoid becoming the victim of crime by making sure your house is locked and secure at all times. Report any suspicious behaviour to us and protect your possessions."

Anyone with any information into the recent burglaries is asked to contact police on 101 reference number 920 03/02/17.
