Two men have been jailed after they left a man with his ear hanging off in a brutal attack in his own home.

On August 6 last year Damian Sweet and Liam Snaith turned up at the victim's home where they subjected him to the attack for no reason.

Last Friday they were both sentenced to ten years.

Detective Inspector Dave Cole said: "This was a brutal attack on a vulnerable victim who was attacked for no apparent reason in his own home and I'm pleased the sentence given to Sweet and Snaith reflects the gravity of the offence."

The attack was investigated by DC Paul Taylor, who DI Cole has praised, for his work in bringing the case to a successful conclusion.

DI Cole added: "Paul has done some great work on this case to make sure justice was done for the victim."

Sweet, who is 19, and of Whitehead Street in South Shields, and Snaith, 23, also of Whitehead Street, pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Newcastle Crown Court.
