Robbery in South Shields

Police are appealing for witnesses after a robbery in South Shields.

The robbery happened around 8.40am this morning at St Michael's News in Westoe Road.

A man went into the shop and treatened a member of staff with a knife before making off with cash and cigarettes.

The man is described as late 20s to early 30s, 6ft tall and skinny build with broad shoulders. He had black hair and a beard with grey flecks. He was wearing a black hooded top and black tracksuit bottoms.

Officers are appealing for information.
