Man and woman assaulted outside metro station in South Shields

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man and woman were assaulted in South Shields.

The assault happened at 6.10pm yesterday evening (Tuesday, March 21) outside the Metro Station in Queen Street.

A 26 year old man and 27-year-old woman were assualted by a group of men. Both received hospital treatment at South Tyneside District Hospital for their injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is in police custody.
