Man arrested after two robberies in Gateshead

Police investigating two robberies in Gateshead earlier this month have made an arrest.

At around 9.50pm on Monday, March 7, police recieved a report of an intruder at the Co-operative store on Dewhurst Terrace in Sunniside.

An unknown male entered the store, threatened a female staff member and demanded they hand over cash.

He then fled in the shop with a small quantity of cash. Thankfully the staff member was not hurt during the ordeal.

The second robbery took place at around 9.40pm on riday, March 17, at the Best One Store on Saltwell Road.

A man entered the store and threatened staff but on this occasion the suspect made off empty handed.

Enquiries into the robberies have been ongoing over the past few weeks and now police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with both incidents.
