Appeal after attempted robbery in Gateshead

Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery in Gateshead.

At around 6am this morning (Wednesday) police recieved a report that man had entered the Post Office on Saltwell Road armed with a knife.

He prceeded to threaten a female staff member and demanded they hand over cash. The woman refused and the man fled the premises empty handed.

Nobody was injured during the incident but the staff member was left incredibly distressed by the ordeal.

Police enquiries into the incident are ongoing and detectives are now appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch.

The offender is described as a white man around 5ft8in tall. He was wearing all black and wearing balaclava.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have seen the man fleeing the area or anyone who may have seen somebody acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident.
