Woman assaulted in Gateshead

Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted in Gateshead.

At around 3.55pm officers received a report of a man slapping a woman across the face at Cartmel Park in Pelaw.

The two appeared to be known to each other and both left the scene in a silver car.

The man is described as being in his 20s, 5'8, dark hair and tanned skin and was wearing a black tracksuit. The woman is desribed as being white and in her late teens, early twenties. Neither spoke with a local accent.

Police are keen to ensure the woman is safe and are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact police. Officers are particularly keen to speak to a woman who was also at the scene when the witness reported the incident to police.
