Gosforth collision update - now fatal

Police investigating a collision between a car and a pedestrian, when a 91-year-old woman was seriously injured in Newcastle, have now confirmed that the woman has sadly died.

The collision happened at approximately 8.38pm on Thursday, April 6, on Jubilee Road in Gosforth. The elderly woman was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary where she died on Friday.

She has now been named as Catherine Duncan, aged 91, of Nelson Avenue, Gosforth in Newcastle.

Officers investigating the collision have charged a 36-year-old man with causing death by careless driving whilst over the prescribed alcohol limit, taking a vehicle without the owner's consent, having no insurance and being a disqualified driver.

He appeared before Newcastle Crown Court this morning (Saturday April 8) and has been remanded in custody.
