Good Samaritans sought in rape investigation

Police investigating a rape in Newcastle are appealing for four good samaritans to come forward.

In the early hours of yesterday morning (Friday, May 19) three men aged in their early 20s helped a woman, also in her 20s, get a taxi near to Newcastle Sixth Form College in the city centre.

It's believed the woman had been raped by a man at an address in a nearby street.

A 51-year-old man has been arrested and is in police custody.

Enquiries are on-going into the incident and police are asking the three men who helped her get a taxi to get in contact as key witnesses. Officers are also keen for the taxi driver who took the woman home to the South Tyneside area to get in contact also as a witness.

Specially trained officers are supporting the victim.
