Hit and run in Gateshead

Police are investigating a hit and run collision this morning which happened at 6.38am at the roundabout next to Hodgson Mazda and Sprinkles car wash on Riverside Way, Dunston, Gateshead.

A 38-year-old cyclist was in the middle lane of the roundabout when a vehicle pulled out and hit him throwing him onto the road. The bike was left in pieces on the roundabout.

He was taken to the QE Hospital in Gateshead where he is being treated for facial injuries.

The road was very busy with traffic at the time of the incident and police would like to speak to anyone who saw anything or has any information that would be able to help them.
