Appeal after suspicious incident in west end of Newcastle

Police are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Newcastle this evening.

At around 1.53am in the early hours of this morning (Saturday) police received a call to say that a man in his early 20s had been assaulted by a group of men in Campbell Place in the west end of the city.

The caller said that the man had been injured by the men and that they had seen the men put the injured man in a car before driving away.

Officers have attended the area concerned but have so far been unable to identify the man or trace the vehicle in question.

Enquiries to locate the individuals concerned are on-going but police are now appealing for help from the public to get in touch.

The male victim is described as white, around 5ft 6in tall, of medium build and with short hair. He was wearing a blue long sleeve hooded jacket with a light grey or white t-shirt underneath.

Extra officers are currently in the area to carry out enquiries to locate those involved and clarify what has happened there this evening. They clearly also need to ensure the safety of the male victim.
