Police are appealing for information after a burglary in Newcastle.

At around 2.50pm yesterday afternoon (Weds) police received a report that somebody has gained entry to a house on Bridge Park in Gosforth.

They have proceeded to steal a set of car keys and a purse belonging to the occupants of the property. The car itself was not stolen.

The burglary is believed to have taken place between 7am and 2.45pm yesterday.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area yesterday to get in touch.

Neighbourhood Sergeant Pinner Rana said: "This burglary has taken place in broad daylight and the suspect has gained access through an insecure side door.

"We believe someone may have seen the individual who committed this offence in the area yesterday and so we are asking anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously to get in touch.

"This is the only report of this nature in the area but we would urge people to take measures to ensure their properties are secure.

"We are approaching summer and have had a lot of warm weather which tends to see an increase in these types of incidents.

"Always lock your doors if you are in the garden and if you have left the house make sure all your windows are closed. Don't advertise your property to burglars."

If you saw anyone, or have information that could help the police investigation, then contact police on 101 quoting log 611 31/05/17 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
