Police find chemicals after search of address in Heaton

Police are continuing to carry out a search of a property in Newcastle.

On Thursday morning (15/6) police carried out a search of an address on Heaton Park View in the Heaton area of Newcastle following reports of suspicious behaviour.

Officers attended the address and found a quantity of chemicals. A 42-year-old local man was arrested and remains in police custody.

Police remain in the area to carry out enquiries and provide reassurance to anyone with concerns. Specialist officers are continuing to search the address which is likely to last for a number of hours.

Chief Superintendent Sharon Scott said: "We have been carrying out a search of a property today and work will be ongoing throughout the day to assess the materials that we have found in the address.

"I would like to reassure members of the public that this being treated as an isolated incident at this time. We have taken this action today as a precaution and we would always ask that if anyone has any information that may help our enquiries, or anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area, to please contact us."
