Appeal after woman's handbag stolen from car

Police are appealing for witnesses after a woman's handbag was stolen from her car in Whitley Bay. 

It happened at around 1.35pm on Monday, July 17. The victim had returned to car which was parked on Bideford Gardens at the junction with Marine Avenue.  As she prepared to drive off, a man approached her passenger side door and struck the window, causing it to shatter.  The man has then reached into the vehicle and taken her handbag, which was on the front passenger seat. He left the scene on foot in the direction of Bideford Gardens, then turned left onto the back lane, which leads to Ilfracombe Gardens. 

The 67 year old victim was not injured but was left shocked by the incident. 

Police would like to speak to a man described as white with pale skin, 5’10’’ tall and slim build in connection with the incident. He is aged in his late teens to early 20s with sandy blond / strawberry blonde hair, and was clean shaven. He was reported to be wearing an ‘Air Force Blue’ hoody which had a white or grey fleck in it, and the hood is described as having braiding around the edge. He was described as wearing grey tracksuit bottoms and trainers.
