Man charged following Byker assault

Police have charged a man after an assault in Walker left a man fighting for his life in hospital.

At around 11.15am on Saturday morning (22/7) police received a report that a man had been assaulted at an address on Wigmore Avenue in Walker.

Emergency services attended and a 43-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in a critical condition.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service also attended to extinguish a fire that had been started at the property.

Now Steven Thomas Terence Clark, 35, of Renwick Street, Newcastle, has been charged with attempted murder and arson.

He will appear before magistrates in Bedlington tomorrow morning (Friday). 

The investigation into the assault continues and police are still appealing for anyone with information about the assault to get in touch.
