Youth in court following Newcastle roof-top incident

At approximately 9pm on Friday, July 28, a youth climbed onto a roof on Western Avenue, in  Newcastle’s west end. Tiles were thrown from the roof at police officers and members of the public were racially abused.

Police officers and negotiators responded and after approximately 90 minutes the youth came down from the roof.

The incident caused a significant amount of disruption and upset  to the local community.

A 15-year-old boy has been charged with robbery affray, breach of a restraining order and racially aggravated public order and will appear before South East Northumberland Magistrates’ Court  on Monday, July 31.
