Homeowners in Tynedale are being reminded to lock their doors and ensure their cars are locked.

The reminder follows recent overnight burglaries in Wylam and Hexham. Last night (Tuesday, 29 August) thieves also targeted two vehicles in Hexham town centre. One vehicle was insecure and property including tools were stolen.

Tynedale Neighbourhood  Inspector Pam Bridges said: "Burglars never take a break and will make the most of any opportunity they see to get into people's homes and cars.

“If you hear or see anything suspicious contact police.

"Don't make life easy for these people and take just a few seconds to remember to close and lock all doors and windows of your property and vehicles.

“Officers are being deployed in Hexham and Wylam overnight to prevent crime and resources are being directed to outlying areas.”

Further information on securing your property can be found on the force website at www.northumbria.police.uk

Anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number  or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
