Following a recent report of a suspicious vehicle in Ashington earlier in the month, Northumbria Police officers went into schools to educated children around stranger danger, safety and how to report these types of incidents to police.

Following on from the school visits, it has come to light through investigation, that some fictitious incidents have since been reported to police.

Police want to reassure the public that while all reports are investigated fully, those that are false are a waste of police resources an can mislead investigations.

Extra officer patrols have been put in place in the area to ensure the safety of the public and reassure communities.

If anyone does see anything of concern please contact Northumbria Police immediately.
