An Hour to Catch a Killer (#AHTCAK) is the ITV series starting tonight, presented by Sir Trevor McDonald, which gives an access all areas insight into the complex and intricate detail our homicide teams must do when investigating a suspected murder.

Those crucial 60 minutes are vital and it is a race against the clock to ensure we catch the killer. In the first episode, due to air Thursday, October 12 at 9pm, the program looks at the tragic death of Alice Ruggles, a 24 year-old woman from Gateshead. This was such a tragic case and our thoughts very much remain with Alice's family and we hope to work closely with the Alice Ruggles Trust going forward.

A/DCC Darren Best said:" Our sympathies are still very much with Alice’s family and especially as we approach the one-year anniversary of her death.

"In particular, my thoughts are with Alice’s parents who have remained unswervingly dignified this past year and have done some incredible work in setting up the Alice Ruggles Trust. I want to commend their bravery for coming forward and taking part in the documentary.

"This series isn’t about highlighting  the good work our investigations teams do – this is about giving an insight into what a murder inquiry entails and how vital it is we cover every intricate detail and leave no stone un-turned.

"It is also about putting the victims and their families first and making sure they have the utmost support during the most difficult time of their lives."
