Police are appealing for help to trace a good Samaritan after an assault in Newcastle city centre.

In the early hours of Thursday, October 12, a male in his twenties was assaulted near to Times Square and St James Boulevard.

Those responsible fled the scene but a member of the public assisted the victim and gave him a lift home to the Slatyford area at around 3.30am.

This man is not a suspect and officers want to speak to him as a witness. He is described as white, around 5ft10in, with medium length dark hair and a local accent.

If anyone has any information about the incident they should email the investigating officer on 2164@northumbria.pnn.police.uk and quote crime reference 126656W/17.
